IATF 16949

เพื่อเป็นการสนองตอบความต้องการมาตรฐานการบริหารงานคุณภาพที่เป็นหนึ่งเดียวสำหรับผู้ประกอบการด้านยานยนต์ทั่วโลก IATF จึงได้จัดทำมาตรฐาน ISO/TS 16949:2002 ขึ้นในปี ค.ศ.1999 มาตรฐานนี้ได้รวบรวมมาตรฐาน ISO 9000 ซึ่งเป็นเกณฑ์มาตรฐานสากลสำหรับการบริหารคุณภาพเอาไว้ ในปี ค.ศ. 2002 มาตรฐาน ISO/TS 16949 ได้รับการแก้ไขโดยเทียบเคียงกับมาตรฐาน ISO 9001:2000 การได้รับการรับรองระบบตามข้อกำหนดเฉพาะทางเทคนิคนี้ได้เป็นที่รู้จักและได้รับการยอมรับไปทั่วโลก ในกลุ่มผู้ประกอบการอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์

ในเดือนตุลาคม ค.ศ.2016 ได้มีการปล่อยการอัปเดตมาตรฐานคุณภาพด้านยานยนต์ หรือ ISO/TS 16949:2009 ครั้งใหญ่ IATF 16949:2016 คือมาตรฐานใหม่ที่เข้ามาแทนที่ ด้วยการปรับปรุงครั้งนี้ IATF (International Automotive Task Force) ได้ปรับมาตรฐานให้สอดคล้องกับมาตรฐานระบบการจัดการคุณภาพ หรือ ISO 9001:2015 ดังนั้น IATF 16949 จึงไม่ใช่มาตรฐานโดด แต่เป็นมาตรฐานที่ต้องใช้ร่วมกับ ISO 9001 แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม นี่ไม่ได้หมายความว่า IATF 16949 จะประกอบด้วยข้อความของ ISO 9001:2015 เพียงเท่านั้น แต่มาตรฐานนี้ยังมีเฉพาะข้อกำหนดเฉพาะด้านยานยนต์ โดยมีชื่อส่วนหัวข้อเดียวกัน

Overview of IATF 16949:2016 – Automotive Quality Management Standard

To meet the global demand for a unified quality management standard in the automotive industry, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) developed ISO/TS 16949 in 1999. This standard integrated the ISO 9000 quality principles and, in 2002, was revised to align with ISO 9001:2000. Over time, ISO/TS 16949 became widely recognized and accepted across the global automotive supply chain.

In October 2016, the IATF released a major update to the standard, replacing ISO/TS 16949:2009 with the new IATF 16949:2016. This updated version was designed to align closely with ISO 9001:2015, the international quality management system standard. However, IATF 16949 is not a standalone standard — it must be implemented in conjunction with ISO 9001:2015. While it follows the same structure and clause numbering, IATF 16949 includes additional, industry-specific requirements tailored for the automotive sector.

A key focus of IATF 16949 — similar to ISO 9001:2015 — is risk-based thinking. The standard emphasizes the responsibility of top management in proactively addressing risks and opportunities, such as reviewing emergency preparedness plans, applying anti-bribery policies, and promoting ethical behavior. These elements reflect the dynamic nature of the automotive industry and the need for responsive, adaptable quality management systems.

Organizations certified to the previous ISO/TS 16949 were required to complete the transition to IATF 16949 by September 14, 2018. This transition represented a significant shift that called for careful planning, understanding, and adaptation. The standard adopts the Annex SL structure shared by ISO management system standards, consisting of 10 clauses, allowing organizations to align their documentation and systems more effectively without unnecessary duplication.

IATF 16949 encourages companies to develop quality management documentation that is consistent with ISO 9001 while meeting automotive-specific requirements, ensuring a clear and practical approach to compliance in an increasingly complex industry.
