ISO 45001

In the evolving landscape of ISO management system standards, the transition from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001 marks a significant milestone. ISO 45001 is the latest international standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), designed to help organizations improve worker safety, reduce workplace risks, and create better working conditions.

Officially published on March 12, 2018, ISO 45001 adopts the Annex SL structure, ensuring greater compatibility and integration with other recently updated ISO standards such as ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. This harmonized structure enables organizations to align their OH&S system more easily with existing quality and environmental management systems.

With the release of ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001 is being phased out. Organizations currently certified to OHSAS 18001 have a three-year transition period to migrate to ISO 45001. It is recommended that certified organizations begin this transition promptly to maintain their OH&S certification and ensure continued compliance.
